About the Program:

Nonprofit organizations dramatically enhance the quality of life, learning, and livelihood in St. Charles County. To strengthen the nonprofit community’s ability to grow their mission, they need impactful, constructive board leadership. Led by qualified experts, “Leading on Purpose” equips individuals new – or veteran – for board leadership with the skills and tools necessary to inspire and support excellence in nonprofit governance.

Relevant Topics

Drawing from best-practices, participants will gain knowledge and tips for practical application of timely, essential topics in board roles and responsibilities and governance practices.

Qualified Trainers

Sessions are designed and led by those with extensive, practical experience in field- based and nonprofit management education and board experience.

Engaging Delivery

Modules will be supplemented with immersive experiences: scenarios, panels, discussion, and networking opportunities.

Week One:

The Nonprofit Context & Basics

Gain knowledge of what differentiates a 501 c 3 organization from others; understand “mission as metrics;” and the unique value and role nonprofits serve.

Week Two:

Board Roles & Responsibilities

Understand expectations; conflicts of interest; “5 Nonprofit Dysfunctions;” IRS compliance: and Roberts Rules of Order

Week Three:

Building a Diverse, Inclusive, Equitable Board

Appreciate the value of diversity; managing diversity of thought; fostering respectful conversations; and recruitment strategies

Week Four:

Successful Board/Staff Relations

Executive director/board relations; and knowing when to “stay in your lane.”

Nonprofit Board & Volunteer Recruitment Fair

Come and share your board of director and general volunteer opportunities! Participation includes one 8′ table, two chairs, promotion to Vision St. Charles County leadership alum, participants of Vision’s “Leading on Purpose” Board of Directors Training Program, and Lindenwood University students. Organizations must be registered nonprofit organizations whose service area includes St. Charles County.
